About ENTSO-E

ENTSO-E is the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, coordinating the cross-border system operations, system development and electricity market activities of 40 electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) in 36 countries. The ENTSO-E Secretariat in Brussels is the focal point for technical, market and policy questions for all European TSOs in their cooperation with each other, in their joint fulfilment of their legal mandates, and in the intensive interactions with European Commission, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders. We are a multinational team of more than 150 staff members, including secondments from member companies. Our work is crucial to ensure security of supply; to complete the largest and most competitive electricity market in the world; and to successfully introduce large volumes of renewable energy into the system.

Internship description 

We are looking for a motivated student with engineering background to join the Flexibility team of the Market and Operations Section of ENTSO-E. The intern will enhance and apply her/his knowledge by contributing to the Probabilistic Risk Assessment, performing data analysis and modelling.

Your responsibilities and tasks 

The chosen applicant is expected to: 

  • Contribute to the analysis and modelling of data and power system models.
  • Collaborate with experts to analyse and interpret results.
  • Support the team in generating reports based on the collected data and analysis.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions to provide insights and recommendations based on the analysis and modelling results.

This is a great opportunity if you are interested in building a wide network, as the above tasks may include transversal interaction with the work of other sections, cooperation with the members of the association and support in project management.

Specific responsibilities may be finetuned together with the selected student. 

Your profile 

The ideal candidate is someone who developed practical curiosity, innovative thinking skills and is interested in technical matters.

Furthermore, you have the following: 

  • Pursuing a university degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Computer sciences or a related field.
    • Knowledge background in Python, MATLAB, Tableau, Power Factory, PSSE, modelling and data analytics in general.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with large sets of data.
  • Previous experience in the energy sector (e.g. previous internships) and/ or demonstrated interest in the energy sector, would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to organize own work and establish priorities.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in English.

Internship requirements 

The candidate should: 

  • Be eligible to reside in EU (meaning EU citizen or valid residence card).
  • Be a full-time student. The internship must be issued by your university as part of your studies.
  • Have a personal (also provided by university) health insurance valid for Belgium during the period of the internship.
  • Sign an internship agreement with your university.
  • Agree on exact length of the internship and schedule (full time or part time).
